Issac Smith describes the general welfare of the family, reporting bad colds and lung fever, little interest among the children toward school, gives instruction to John Butler for land management in Illinois, and reports prices for livestock and produce. He also discusses the scarcity of money, and asks that John send him a copy of 'The Western Fruit Book' and buy as subscription to the Atlas newspaper. An addendum describes Berryman's leg disorder.
