Abstract

This paper employs semiotic analysis, wherein the symbols and signifiers of the pornographic film TS CEO Reviews and Fucks Employee (TS CEO) are analyzed and interpreted,. Consideration is given to the psychoanalytic/feminist concept of the male gaze and how the use of the male gaze within the framework of TS CEO indicates specific societal anxieties about transgender women, including a perception of transgender women as predators. The construct of TS CEO and similar films, through the symbols and tropes utilized throughout the film, are identified as assisting to justify physical and sexualized violence against the transgender community. Suggestions for a more holistic view of the transgendered experience and of the bodies of transgendered women within pornographic film are forwarded in order to combat the sexual othering of transgender bodies and the negative social values expressed through pornography marketed towards cisgender male audiences.
