Abstract
Since their invention engines have had profound effects on human lives and the planet. This presentation explores types of engines, fuels, and their combined effects - past, present, and future - on the environment. Beginning with steam engines, spark ignition engines, charged ignition engines, and gas turbines, this presentation examines how they work, and the fuel types associated with them. Efficiency regarding energy use and emissions is discussed as well. Though they have been extremely helpful, many of these engines have negative consequences for the natural world, including global warming, ozone depletion, and smog. This presentation will discuss new developments in engine technology, including new engine types, fuel resources, and devices, that seek to reduce negative impacts on our world.
