Abstract
We predict that inducing a positive mood state will illicit altruistic behavior. Using a between subjects design, twenty participants, will be randomly assigned to either a positive or neutral mood condition. Each group will be shown either a funny video clip (positive mood condition) or an informative clip (neutral mood condition). Subjects will then be given an opportunity to volunteer to help out with a future volunteer opportunity. We anticipate that the results will show those assigned to the positive mood state condition, will be more likely to volunteer for a future task, which is consistent with our hypothesis.
