Abstract

My Future My Choice is a comprehensive sex education program and curriculum frequently implemented in public schools in Oregon. The purpose of our evaluation plan proposal is to assess the effectiveness of My Future my Choice in a sample 6th grader at Talmadge Middle School in Polk County. The purpose project aims to recruit a convenience sample of 265 students in the 6th-grade class where My Future My Choice program will be implemented. The team estimated an 85% participation due to absences. It is expected that the sample will be representative of the student body at Talmadge Middle School. The school has a 47% majority of white students and 44% Latino/Hispanic students. The sample, however, is not representative of the overall population in Oregon when racial and ethnic demographics are considered. The proposed sample will have higher rates of a Latino/Hispanic population and lower rates of white students than the rest of the state. After the completion of the My Future-My Choice program, one of the main objectives of our evaluation plan is to assess the changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of students. The proposed project also includes a process evaluation component to determine the level and quality of implementation. Pre and Post surveys, as well as interviews will be used to evaluate the program. It is expected that participants in the program will increase knowledge and decrease unsafe sex practices.
