Abstract

Chearn (Chunk it and learn) is a start of an educational platform that follows a teaching style that is different from traditional linear approach. Lesson hierarchy to provide chunking of information, custom review system to eliminate memory degradation are key features we looked for in Chearn. Akai Solutions has been able to build a learning platform in the form of a web application that follows this same approach of learning. In Chearn the website, instructors can signup and put together lessons by adding text materials, links and more to build courses. Instructors have the ability to create interconnected lessons in a course, visual ways of showing the connections between lessons(presented in a graph) and creation of questions for each lesson. Moreover, the instructors have tools to view student performances in their courses. On the other hand, students can sign up and enroll in courses being offered in the system while at the same time being able to see a bird eye view of a course with interconnections of lessons. Student side features include ability to take lessons, view graphs of how the course is designed and take quizzes and reviews that are customized according to their level of understanding of the materials. We, Akai Solutions, as of now at the end of our senior sequence have been able to deliver a working learning platform where instructors can create not so traditional courses and students can take them
