Abstract

As the 2017 Alumni Relations WOU Community Internship Program Intern, I was granted the amazing opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look into University Advancement. Through planning the WOU Spring Wine Mixer, Scholarship Dinner and Senior Send-Off, I gained invaluable experiential experience in event planning and conflict management that I would not have gleaned from simply a class. My internship has resulted in a student position opening up in the same department; being hired on past the end date of the internship is a very common thing, which is one reason why internships are such a powerful teaching tool.
