Abstract

This project explored how the use of primary sources in a history class promoted a learning environment which embraces the ideals of critical pedagogy. The study examined how the combination of primary sources and critical pedagogical practices facilitate the rejection of a passive learning environment, the accommodation of diverse cultural backgrounds, and the teaching of the historical process. Encouraging dialogue over the interpretation of these sources creates a space where students are provided a comparable platform to adults; a place in which students can interact with one another to legitimately address the challenges they face.
