Abstract

With the increase in high stakes testing, there has been an influx of research on factors that affect student performance. Much of this research points to the importance of a student’s beliefs and mindsets toward learning and intelligence as the key to increasing motivation, perseverance, and resiliency. This study examines the impact of consistent, brief conversations with at-risk students targeted toward steering mindsets toward a growth model and building self-efficacy in writing. Can just a few minutes a day make a difference?
