Abstract

Benazir Bhutto was an anomaly of her era. She became the first female prime minister of a Muslim country following her father’s term, betrayal, and execution. A lot of factors contributed to her rise to power as a female, something unusual given the time period and country. There hasn’t been a female leader in Pakistan to date since Bhutto’s term, and part of that reason was that all of these contributing factors (family history, wealth, and education) made a perfect storm, and the conditions were ideal for her rise to power.
