Abstract

To get a taste of the fundamentals of group theory, we will first investigate the connections between geometry and group theory. The focus will be on groups of symmetries of regular polygons, specifically a square, while targeting the common core 8th grade standard on reflections, rotations, and symmetries. Finally, we will distinguish the connections between algebra and geometry in regards to symmetrical movements of regular polygons through the properties of group theory.
