Abstract

Ayurveda is the traditional medical system of India and has been around for at least 5,000 years. The goal of Ayurveda is to prevent and treat disease and illness by maintaining balance of our unique and individual doshas, or energies, in the mind, body, and consciousness through the use of herbal remedies, minerals, oils, and special diets. Risks have been shown when heavy metals are used in certain herbal preparations or medications. However, it has been proven to help reduce or lower the risk of various health conditions, like stress, heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. This presentation takes a look into the alternative medicine known as Ayruveda; its risks and benefits, treatment, and how it compares to conventional medicine
