Abstract

This study took place in a 9-10th grade classroom in which students were asked to describe their opinions and feelings for motivation, in an academic setting. Students participated in a survey that aimed to understand who and what motivates students and what teachers have done to motivate students previously. A small subgroup was selected to participate in a focus group interview in which student motivation was further examined. The qualitative findings were analyzed and examined in hopes to find commonalities among students and successful techniques teachers have used and may use going forward in their own classrooms.
