Abstract

This presentation examines the life of John Paul II in light of Existential thought applied to therapeutic and Counseling practices founded by Victor Frankle. A comparison between John Paul II’s and Victor Frankle’s will be examined in a brief review of the Nazi movement and occupation of Europe to illustrate the extreme circumstances which left both searching for value and meaning. Highlights will be taken from John Paul II’s personal writings and Papal Encyclicals to illustrate Existentialist thought in Catholicism. Some documents to be discussed include Fides et Ratio, Laborem Exercens, and Evangelium Vitae.
