Abstract

This documentary gives a brief history of energy storage, focusing specifically on batteries and hydrogen fuel cells. A battery is a package of one or more galvanic cells used for the production and storage of electric energy by chemical means. A fuel cell is an electrochemical device that combines hydrogen fuel with oxygen to produce electricity, heat and water. The science and uses for both of these storage methods will also be described in detail, along with a brief history of their respective uses. Advances in fuel cell technology could potentially change the way energy is stored. However, the substantial cost to produce hydrogen may prevent this form of energy storage from worldwide commercialization.
